FOLLOWING SEVERAL RESCUE OPERATIONS AT THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA, ITALIAN COAST GUARD SHIP DICIOTTI ARRIVED AT THE POZZALLO PORT WITH SOME 519 MIGRANTS ON BOARD. AT LEAST 42 OF THE MIGRANTS ARE IN NEED OF URGENT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE TO COPE WITH THEIR TRAUMAS AS THEY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO SEVERAL PSYCHOLOGICAL PREDICAMENTS.
The Italian coast guard ship diciotti docked in the port of pozzallo on Tuesday with 519 migrants on board. the migrants were rescued in seven different operations over the past few days.
on board the Italian coast guard ship there were are also 42 people that were rescued on June 13 by the us navy ship Trenton.
According to the Marco Rotunno, UNCHR communication officer,
“amongst these people there are 42 that survived a shipwreck, and these people are in more urgent need of assistance, because they watched their travelling companions dying at sea, and in some cases these (victims) were their relatives, and these people are in need of instant medical care, but also of an urgent psychological assistance.”
while the Diciotti ship was waiting for clearance a few miles outside Pozzallo harbour, a group of ten women and children and a sick person were allowed to disembark and brought to land in a smaller vessel.
Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini recently sparked a multinational showdown by refusing to allow a Mediterranean sea rescue boat packed with 630 migrants to dock at an Italian port.
