Players Break Their Fast For Ramadan During A Football Match In The Turkish League After Hearing The Maghrib Adzan

April 17, 2021

A game of football in Turkey’s second division was halted in the 11th minute to allow some Muslim players to break their fast after hearing the evening call to prayer at sunset.

Four players of the Ankara Keciorengucu squad were seen eating dates and bananas right on the pitch, while their goalkeeper was sipping water after they overheard the call to prayer at sunset.

After being posted on beIN Sports Turkey’s Twitter account, the video has gone viral on social media with over 4.7 million views.

“When an injury occurred in the GZT Giresunspor-Ankara Keciorengucu coinciding with the call to prayer, the players broke their fast,” the tweet read.

During the month of Ramadan, which began earlier this week, fasting Muslims do not eat or drink during daylight hours.
