Nigeria participates at the World Halal Summit 2019 in Istanbul

Nigeria participated at the 5th World Halal Summit and expo on Thursday in Istanbul, Turkey’s commercial capital.  The summit is one of the largest halal events that enlighten people on significant issues in the halal sector by bringing together prominent experts worldwide. 

The summit, which is held annually serves as a reliable platform for high-level bureaucrats, academicians, scientists, businessmen/women, and business groups from over 80 countries. 

Zubair Dada, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, represented the Nigerian government during the summit. Mr Dada states he is impressed by the organization of the event and that Nigeria needs to learn a lot from such an event. 

“there is a need for more awareness about the essence of halal on our daily lives.” He said.

While the four-day summit aims to raise awareness of halal with seminars focusing on halal-related topics, the expo, which is the largest exhibition in the halal sector, brings together sector players to promote the halal market to the 2 billion Muslims around the world.

The honourable minister met with the Nigerian business groups during the expo and discussed critical issues on how the federal government can assist investors in crucial sectors. 

Several businesses from Nigeria participated during the event. Nigeria’s bank of industry, Kabo Air, Charlesmekus pharmaceuticals and stores limited, ECJ global services and lion share bakery are among those who were present during the expo. 

The secretary of State represented Yobe state governor Mai Mala Buni during the summit. Yobe was among the key participants during the event. Yobe is well known for its endowed abundance in agricultural resources, such as sesame seeds, gum arabic, livestock, as well as mineral resources like limestone, gypsum, and kaolin. The state government aim to find investors and sign a multilateral agreement which will boost the state economy. 

Emre Ete, the deputy manager of the World Halal Summit Council, told the twin events’ opening ceremony: “We continue to work to boost the $4 trillion halal market and awareness of halal.”

The summit aims to form a single halal standard that will be recognized worldwide, also to promote multilateral relations between countries to bolster economic ties. 

Both events were organized under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey at Istanbul’s Eurasia Exhibition Center.
