The Legend Of Mansa Musa

The richest man to ever walk the earth is not Elon Musk or any of the billionaires that come to mind when anyone talks about the richest people in the world.

Itʼs Africaʼs own Mansa Musa, he was an emperor of the Malian empire in the 14th century and ruled from 1312 to 1337.

He was known for his generosity and willingness to share his wealth with those who werenʼt as privileged.

In 1324 he went on his first pilgrimage to Mecca with sixty thousand men and twelve thousand servants carrying gold bars.

When he passed through Egypt he shared so many gold bars it caused an inflation and it took over ten years for the economy to recover. He enjoyed learning and seeking knowledge and established universities and libraries, including the famous Sankore University in Timbuktu.

He had a great love for architecture and sponsored the creation of many elegant structures, notably the djingareber mosque in Timbuktu.
His net worth has not been able to be estimated because he was so rich, imagine being so rich no one can accurately calculate your net worth. Must be nice!

Itʼs been centuries since he died but he is still remembered for his wealth and charity. So the next time someone asks you who the richest man to ever walk the earth was, remember the name Mansa Musa.
