Tribute: craving souls of the rail

March 31, 2022

The train started moving; the engine began puffing forward into the tunnel and later became invisible to my vision. Everybody pilled on board. There was an empty seat in the second row of the carriage, which I had its ticket held in my hands. My eyes grew bigger and became hollow, filled with tears. I drained those tears with a forceful smile that sprouted from the crowd looking at me after making a strange sound of anger. I just missed the train.
But what matters is that this train got attacked on its journey through the nocks and creeks of the land, where innocent lives were lost. This was so pathetic in a time of uncertainty when life becomes more difficult. All the victims on board took the train to be safe, and when running for safety, they were trapped in a dangerous zone, where they ended up cold-blooded.
We are in a moment of disillusionment and anger after people have lost their lives. So what is the meaning of life without peace? We feel things are not going on the right path; the nation is crumbling. We need to pull back the curtain and remind ourselves of some blessed memories when we travel freely like birds without obstacles, only being stopped after reaching our destination. Gone are the days when our leaders serve the people because they are there to represent the people by the people.
When I sat down to write this, I was filled with sympathy for the lives lost in the recent attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train. This sad news came after a recent attack at the Kaduna airport, then to the Abuja-Kaduna train and now back to the roads where it is rooted. Looking at the genesis of how it all started, it has now grown into something that seems difficult to tackle. Instead of contributing their quarter towards the development of the country, some groups of the population are now ruining and destabilizing what is useful to the country.
I suppose that we should be honest, and before going any further, we need to admit that we are not safe. This is hard to say, but that is the truth of what we are witnessing. The sun is hot, and the shed is not offering shelter that could accommodate us. This is how terrible things have become, and when I say terrible, it has reached to peak.
Many of us were shocked and outraged by those incidences of insecurity happening. This has affected us one way or the other because, as humanity, anything that affects any one of us has affected us all. We have spent many years in silence, watching things not change in the direction that needs to be navigated.
The security sector has been doing what it can, but at this time, more effort is needed to put things on the right track. All hands should be on deck to work together to achieve the country of our dream, as everyone has something to offer to society. I think there is high time to bring to the table those who will provide strategic plans that will tackle insecurity and challenges in the race of a nation towards success.
We need to address many challenges that clouded our vision to be a united country. Peace in society is the backbone of development, where sustainable development can flourish.
