Voting Awareness Exercise Held At Badarawa

Voting is a fundamental right of every citizen in a democracy. It allows you to pick who you want to represent and bring change to your community. Unfortunately, many citizens are left out of the process for reasons ranging from ignorance about the process and not being able to pay fees required to obtain a voter’s card. Political aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) Honorable Abdulazeez Abubakar Kaka organized a voting awareness and free registration event in Badarawa, Kaduna, to enlighten on Sunday, January 9 members of the community on the process and importance of voting.

Several community members were in attendance, listening as speakers at the event stressed the importance of voting for the right person regardless of financial status. They stated there was only so much money could do and advised them not to be swayed by people who try to win them over by handing out cash and gifts, emphasizing that only someone who has the people’s best interest at heart could implement change in the community.

The importance of votes from women and the youth was emphasized with the women’s leader Maryam Mama Alhaji, pledging the support of the women and promising to ensure that they are registered and fully involved in the voting process. A community member in attendance stated that if the people refuse to be registered, it will hinder their rights to complain as their refusal to vote could usher in a leader who is not concerned with the people’s problems.

The organizer, Hon. Abdulazeez Abubakar Kaka stated that the exercise aims to reach many people across local governments in Kaduna and have them registered as voters ahead of the 2023 elections. He lamented the low number of registered voters in the state compared to their counterparts in other parts of the country. He equally stated that his motivation to venture into politics as a young person is due to the governor of Kaduna state Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, who has provided opportunities for the youths to flourish in the political space adding that politics is in the nature of every Nigerian.

Community member Gimbiya Waziri expressed hope for the upcoming elections and said the event was successful because many people participated in the exercise.
